Born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil on June 7, 1980, Gustavo Athayde has been drawing since he was a kid and took DC and Marvel comics as his inspiration.
He began his university training at Unifacs Salvador where he earned a BA degree in Art Education, and post graduated in Product Design at UnEB – the Bahia State University.
He worked in Salvador as a graphic designer for design offices including Quality Design and Opus Comunicação; for carnival groups such as Os Mascarados with the singer Margareth Menezes and Bloco Afropopbrasileiro; for advertising agencies such as Criante and Go Comunicação, and for the media group Rede Bahia. He lectured Graphic Representation for undergraduate students at the School of Design at Unifacs and Applied Software in Multimedia at Unijorge – The Jorge Amado University Center.
He has been living in São Paulo since 2009. He studied Illustration at IED – Instituto Europeo di Design – and worked as an art director and graphic designer for Integration Consulting Group’s Marketing until 2011, when he turned to a freelancer carreer. Advised to Nonsense T-shirts, where he was responsible for special projects for clients such as FNAC, Cultura Bookstore and Renner in the same period has partnered with the Ludic Group as Associate Designer, meeting the demands ofbanks, mining and technology companies in the UK .
In 2012 set up his own studio/workshop where he develops and creates illustration, infographics and data visualization, drawing and design graphic solutions.
